MEET LIMERICK'S FIRST i-School!

The teachers and students at Coláiste Iósaef are delighted to announce the official launch of their “school app”, the first school in Limerick City and County to embrace the world of Smart Phones as a means of connecting with the school community.
Coláiste Iósaef have teamed up with Smartsphere.net to create the school app. Smart have developed the SchoolShare app that enables schools to share news and events to students, parents and staff using the unlimited messaging power of the software. The SchoolShare app empowers current and prospective parents to stay connected with all the great activities and achievements both inside and outside the classroom.
Given the financial constraints experienced by schools today, the school app is indeed a welcome. It reduces school expenditure on printing and posting by making the most of its unlimited message service. Mr Seán Twomey, principal explained that “the launch of Coláiste Iósaef’s school app compliments the schools commitment to embrace the technologies and integrate the use of ICT in learning and teaching as outlined by the National Centre for Technology in Education. The app will further compliment to development of the schools virtual learning environment where communication and collaboration is central to the teaching and learning culture in Coláiste Iósaef.”
To download our app, go to SchoolShare in the App Store and enter your mobile number when prompted. Once the app has downloaded, enter "CIK" when prompted.
DOUBLE GLORY! 1ST YEAR SOCCER AND SENIOR HURLERS RETURN WITH SILVERWARE!
Well done to both our 1st year soccer team and our senior hurlers who have won two cups in two days. Yesterday, 14th March, our first year boys soccer team were victorious in the FAI North Munster Cup Final beating Borrosokane by 2 goals to 1 after closely contested game. Paudie Sheedy opened our account with a stunning shot from 22 yards after only minutes after the boys had conceded. Rian Brady scored what proved to be the winner after the Borrosokane keeper parried a low driving shot from a Ben Upton. Congrats also to our Senior hurlers who won the County Final versus Hazelwood College of Dromcollogher on a final score of 1-11 0-13 after a tremendous injury time goal from Eric Finn. Many thanks the coaches and mentors of both teams - Mr Daniel Hogan and Mr David Owens (1st year soccer) and Mr Noel Kelly and Mr Brian Finn (Senior Hurlers). Click here for photos.

SUCCESS AT COUNTY ENTERPRISE AWARDS 2012
Well done to our Transition Year students who competed in the County Enterprise Awards last Wednesday 7th March at the Woodlands Hotel in Adare. We had three enterprise companies representing the school in total. These included Sideline, Woks and Granny Green. In the end we narrowly missed out on 1st place with Sideline taking the trophy for second place. Woks certainly captured the judges eye with their imaginative stand and they took home the prize in this category.

COLÁISTE IÓSAEF ENTREPRENEURS MAKE HEADLINES!
The days of players storing hurleys in a shabby fertiliser bag on the pitch sideline are over thanks to an innovative new product which as been developed by one of our TY Enterprise classes. The 16 strong team of students have devised the '12-PAC' - a unique hurley storage bag from which dry, spare hurleys can be distributed to players as they need them. Sales are through the roof, notably with the Limerick County Board endorsing the company's clever product. Sideline, as the company is aptly named, has already secured sales from clubs throughout Limerick City and County and in neighbouring counties such as Cork, Clare and Tipperary. Impressively, the team are awaiting orders from the US, where clubs in Chicago, Boston and New York have their eye on the 12-PAC. LIT have also ordered bags. Sideline officially launched their product at the Gaelic Grounds on Saturday 25th February last, at the National Hurling League opener between Limerick and Clare, where the 12-PACs were put to use. On Wednesday 7th March next, our TY enterprises will bid to secure a place in the National Enterprise Finals. Best of luck to all involved. Watch this space for details on our other enterprise companies. To read the Limerick Leader article click here.

WELCOME TO THE SIXTIES! TY STUDENTS HIT THE STAGE!

Following on from the success of last year's musical 'Footloose', our students once again graced the stage of the People's Hall in Kilmallock for this year's much anticipated musical production of 'Miss Teenage Hairspray', which was a sell-out for four consecutive nights. The cast and production crew began rehearsing last September and as opening night drew closer, they even rehearsed on Saturdays and Sundays as they put the final touches on the production. This year's show was led once again by Ms Marita Herbert and Ms Michele Daly, Directors, Ms Caitriona O'Brien, Producer and Ms Emer Glancy and Elaine Davern, Musical Directors. Coláiste Iósaef were delighted to have once again secured the expertise of reknowned Limerick choreographer, Ms Niamh O'Connell, who was also ablely assisted by our own Ms Louise Raleigh, Dance Assistant. Congratulations to all the cast and production crew on a magnificent show! A DVD of the musical will be available for sale soon.
